Valley Wagon Tours The
two hour Tours go across the valley in a mule drawn wagon, stopping midway, for
a view of the back of the valley and the major waterfall Hi'ilawe. The
driver tells the History of the valley, its legends and spiritual
significance. In Waipio Valley nature is in a romance with time.
Mysterious, inaccessible on three sides, it was kept secluded from the
outside world until a precipitous road was built in 1962.
The
fabled Hi'ilawe Falls, twin cascades, dance in the distance. You arrive
on the half mile long black sand beach at the spot where the Wailoa
River meets the sea and gaze inland, across the broad valley floor.
Waipi'o, the name
means curving water. The name has always held a sacred place in Hawaiian
History. It was among the great windward valleys settled by the early
Polynesians and its legends go back to the first Kings. Tours
